Facelift, neck lift, mini lift, MACS lift, Deep Plane lift… what does it all mean?
A facelift (or rhytidectomy) involves facial rejuvenation through surgery. It may or may not be combined with a neck lift when we want to improve neck definition.
Facelift techniques have evolved significantly in recent years, leading to many different names. Do you know what each one actually means?
Let me briefly explain them below.
If you want to know the detailed differences between Mini Lift, SMAS Lift, and Deep Plane Lift, I explain everything in my complete guide to facelift techniques.
In 1976, Mitz and Peyronie described the SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System), a fibromuscular layer that encompasses the facial expression muscles: a new era in facelifts was born.
As a result, with better understanding of facial anatomy, subcutaneous facelifts were soon set aside, and techniques aimed at tightening the SMAS from its outer layer (SUPRA-SMAS LIFT) began to be described. Particularly SMAS plication and SMASectomy.
Both techniques work by shortening the SMAS to tighten it, either through loose sutures (plication) or resection (SMASectomy).
Later, seeking an alternative with a shorter incision, the MACS-Lift (Tonnard & Verpaele) was developed, based on a loop suture system that later became popular as a MINI LIFT due to its shorter incision (only in front of the ear).
Despite the popularity (and commercial appeal) of the mini lift, its effectiveness is extremely limited when it comes to tightening the more anterior facial tissues and therefore correcting cheek drooping, nasolabial folds, and marionette lines.
This category refers to the most advanced facelift techniques, which are based on releasing and repositioning the facial retaining ligaments – the true culprits behind tissue descent over time.
They include two main approaches: high-SMAS and Deep Plane.
What makes it different from the others?
Unlike other techniques, the Deep Plane lift (and particularly the Extended Deep Plane) is the only approach that allows for complete release of the retaining ligaments.
This enables the tissues to be repositioned to their original placement, achieving restoration of the patient’s youthful facial anatomy.
This represents an evolution of the Deep Plane lift that shortens recovery time and significantly reduces complication rates. Want to know more? Click the link to access the complete guide.
So, How Much Does a Facelift Cost?
As you might have guessed, the price of a facelift depends primarily on the technique used and the experience of the surgeon.
The price of a mini lift can range from €4,500-€6,500. However, if you choose this procedure, remember that the results may not meet your expectations.
Factors Influencing the Price of a Deep Plane Facelift
However, it’s difficult to give a precise price range for a Deep Plane facelift, as it depends on:
- The areas to be treated (facelift vs. cervicofacial lift)
- Complementary procedures (blepharoplasty, brow lift, CO2 laser rejuvenation, lip lift…)
- The hospital arrangement (outpatient or inpatient)
- Your surgeon’s experience
- And the country!
In the United States, the price of a Deep Plane Facelift with a specialist is around $100,000 (and fees for “top” surgeons exceed $200,000 for a cervicofacial lift).
In contrast, in Spain, a Deep Plane Facelift with a specialist starts at around €16,000-€18,000, to which must be added any complementary procedures (blepharoplasty, neck lift, CO2 laser, etc.), potentially reaching up to €25,000 depending on the case.
Prices below €10,000-€12,000 should raise suspicions: in fact, they’re simply incompatible with the years of experience and dedication needed to consistently deliver good results. If you’re given a quote in this range, check your doctor’s credentials and make sure they’re not cutting corners on aspects vital to you (operating room, anesthesia…).
What many sell as a benefit for you is often an excuse because they can’t offer you what you really need.
Watch out! Don’t fall into the trap of “it’s a short surgery” (the work will be poorly done) or “I’ll do it in the office with sedation” (doesn’t that sound like a botch job to you?).
The expertise
Trust your face to a specialist in facial aesthetic surgery. Greater specialization means more experience and higher success rates. It’s your face – doesn’t it deserve the best?
The results
Be wary of computer simulations – always insist on seeing real cases. A sufficiently experienced specialist will be able to immediately show you cases similar to yours so you can see what they can achieve.
The experience
Deep Plane Facelift requires a learning curve in order to accomplish outstanding results. Do not settle for someone who operates on a facelift once every two months
Dr. Alejandro Mazarro is one of the few surgeons in Spain specialized in Deep Plane Facelift.
Furthermore, thanks to his dedication, he is currently a national reference in Facial Lifting, which has led him to speak at facial aesthetic surgery conferences alongside surgeons of the caliber of Ben Talei, Mike Nayak, Neil Gordon, Alessandro Gualdi, Mario Pelle, and Lessandro Martins.
The result: offering you natural rejuvenation with the peace of mind of putting your face in the best hands.

What about you? Do you also believe your face deserves the hands of a facelift specialist, or would you prefer to put it in the hands of someone who does “a bit of everything”?
In 2016, I made the decision to focus my practice on facial rejuvenation surgery.
Since then, I’ve guided hundreds of patients through their transformation, with one guiding principle in mind: restoring what time has gradually taken away from their face while preserving their natural features..

Frequently Asked Questions About Deep Plane Facelift Pricing
Why does the Deep Plane lift cost more than other techniques?
Because it's a complex technique that requires more time in the operating room, specialized experience, and advanced knowledge of facial anatomy. Additionally, it offers more long-lasting and natural results.
What's included in the price of a Deep Plane facelift?
It includes the surgery, anesthesia, hospitalization, pre and post-operative consultations, personalized follow-up, and in many cases, complementary treatments to optimize results.
Is it worth investing in a Deep Plane lift compared to cheaper options?
Yes, if you're looking for natural, safe, and long-lasting results. More economical techniques often require more frequent touch-ups or deliver less aesthetic results, which can end up being more expensive in the long run.
What's the price of a facelift in Barcelona?
The price can vary significantly depending on the technique and experience. A traditional facelift costs around €10,000, while a Deep Plane with a specialist can cost between €18,000 and €25,000, and up to $200,000 in the US.
