They can be pretragal or retrotragal, depending on the case.\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The placement of the incisions is not a simple technical detail.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a critical part of the aesthetic result.<\/p>\n<p>And it requires <b>anatomical knowledge<\/b>, <b>aesthetic sensitivity<\/b>, and significant <b>surgical experience<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>For the Deep Plane facelift, the incisions are strategically placed in areas where the anatomy of the face naturally hides them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In front of the ear<\/strong>, following the natural fold in that area. The incision can either be <strong>pretragal<\/strong> (in front of the cartilage) or <strong>retrotragal<\/strong> (behind the cartilage).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Behind the ear<\/strong>, following the retroauricular fold, often extending towards the scalp. Over time, this incision is hidden, even if you wear your hair up.<\/li>\n<li>When working on the neck, a small incision is typically added <strong>under the chin<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<hr>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/cicatrices.jpg\" alt=\"Pretragal vs retrotragal incisions in facelift\"><\/p>\n<h2>Pretragal vs. Retrotragal incision: which is better?<\/h2>\n<div>\n<p>The incision in front of the ear can either be <strong>pretragal<\/strong> (in front of the cartilage) or <strong>retrotragal<\/strong> (behind the cartilage).<\/p>\n<p>While it might seem like the retrotragal incision is always better (since it may appear more hidden), it largely <strong>depends on each case<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, I prefer the <strong>retrotragal<\/strong> incision.
